War Preparations Urged As Civil Defense Chief Warns
La Crosse residents were urged to prepare for incendiary bombs in air raids. Fire Chief Adolph Kessel warned that fire bombs pose a greater threat than atomic bombs and urged business owners and citizens to check extinguishers, water supply and equipment. He noted wartime fire losses may rise in 1950 and urged readiness to reduce losses.

Girl Injured In Car Crash At County Junction
Two days of accidents caused extensive property damage and one injury. Helen Zimmermey, 17, suffered a head cut when her car hit another vehicle at county trunks C and D. Robert Silberschmidt, 27, stated he skidded into Charles Timm’s car after failing to see it. Mrs. Silberschmidt was unhurt. James Laxton’s car with five passengers avoided injury in a crash at the Highway 14 curve. Edward Schmidt’s car was damaged. Raymond Luehn’s car rolled over three times after losing control on Highway B. he survived with no injuries. Eve in the Festival of Britain mystery play will feature a leather costume and a fig leaf.
