The memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined in the temple and in the hearts of the people he saved the Union for. The article honors Lincoln’s enduring legacy and calls the memory of his achievements eternal.
Lincoln celebrated on the 150th anniversary with ceremonies in Washington and Springfield. Carl Sandburg lauded Lincoln before Congress as a paradox of strength and grace. Diplomats, Supreme Court justices, and officials attended. International tributes included Mayor Brandt in Springfield and wreaths by Britain's PM in London. Stamps and events marked Hodgenville birth, with Meade Alcorn promoting Lincoln dinner themes.
Carl Sandburg delivered a public tribute at a joint session of Congress marking Lincoln’s 150th birth anniversary. The ceremony broadcast nationally featured Frederic March reading the Gettysburg Address as Cabinet members, diplomats, justices, and military leaders looked on.
John Hansen age 101 of 2555 S 16th St died in a local hospital Wednesday. Born September 13, 1857 in Mormon Coulee he moved to La Crosse as a youth and worked at Meir Brick Yard Gund Brewery and La Crosse Rubber Mills before retirement. Survived by two sons, a daughter, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two brothers. wife and a son preceded him in death. Funeral 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Schumacher Funeral Home and 9 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Rosary Friday evening at the funeral home.

The Board of State College Regents said Platteville will open a new student union this month as the first of nine unions to be built on state college campuses. The $760000 facility will serve the merged Institute of Technology and Platteville State College, with total nine unions costing nearly six million dollars and eight others likely finished before July 1, notably at Superior and Eau Claire.

Washington AP The Construction Trades Council of Eau Claire Wisconsin was ruled by the National Labor Relations Board to have committed an illegal secondary boycott by barring subcontractor workers. The NLRB ordered the council to stop repeating the action while allowing picketing of the prime contractor if subcontractor employees are not involved. A separate case against the carpenters union over pew installations remains pending.
A Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train traveling about 80 mph from Washington to New York derailed ten miles east of Baltimore. Thirty-two people were hospitalized with mostly minor injuries. engine and first seven cars remained on track while three cars broke off. Police blamed possible rail spread. train carried about 300 passengers.
