Rose Marie Kinsey Rescued After 10 Hours in Snow

Four year old Rose Marie Kinsey was found alive after more than ten hours buried in a snow pile in New Brunswick New Jersey. Officials believe a rooftop snowslide while she played in an alley caused the accident. Over 100 volunteers aided the search until a man, returning for one last look, heard her whimper and freed her with his bare hands.

Twin to twin bone marrow transplant shows success

In Seattle at University Hospital a bone marrow transplant from Barbara Lowry to her sister Nancy Lowry, both identical twins, treated Nancy's aplastic anemia. The procedure, only the third of its kind in medical literature and the first successful case, involved about a tablespoon of marrow and several needle punctures. Doctors say Nancy's marrow is functioning and likely to continue doing so.

Snow avalanche kills nine Swiss pupils and teacher

In Lenzerheide a massive avalanche on Scalottas Mountain killed six girls, three boys, and a young male teacher during a school ski trip from Glarus. One boy died later, two boys were critically injured, and one girl and a boy suffered serious injuries.

Katanga Denies Engineering Lumumba Escape

Katanga Province officials denied rumors they staged Lumumba’s escape from a Mutshatsa jail to hide his fate. A car used by Lumumba and two associates was found near Kasaji, with authorities saying guards’ fault allowed the escape. Western observers warned of possible civil war if Lumumba is dead or alive.

Baby Hurt As Family Escapes Fire In Home

Fire from an overheated coal furnace damaged a two story home near Green Bay. A four month old girl was rescued by her father after he initially escaped with the rest of the family. The child suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at St Vincent hospital. Damage was about $10,000.

Westinghouse Officials Begin Jail Terms Early

Two Westinghouse executives John H. Chiles Jr. and Charles I. Mauutel start a 30 day antitrust sentence in Montgomery County prison after surrendering in Philadelphia. Judge Ganey approved early start to allow personal affairs. The men will serve in separate cells and were among seven executives sentenced for fixing prices and rigging bids.

Three Die In Wisconsin Car Crashes Friday

Three people died in separate Wisconsin crashes Friday night and today. A Pardeeville youth, 16, died when his car hit two trees on Highway 51 north of Stevens Point. his sister 20 was injured. A Crivitz resident, 20, Louis Musczinski, died in a Marinette County two car collision near Beaver with five injured. George Bleecker, 60, of Milwaukee died when his car left Highway 30 in Delafield and crashed into a ditch. The 1961 state toll rose to 79.

Wisconsin Regents approve a study to relocate the La Crosse Soil and Water Experiment Station with final plans needing State Building Commission and regents approval. Lansing Teen Killed in Early Morning Car Crash

Alan Lanke ford 16 of Lansing was killed when the car he drove went out of control on a township road near Lansing at 1 30 a m. Alice Walleser 16 suffered serious chest injuries and was hospitalized. Daniel Severson 17 was treated and released. Alan was a sophomore at Allamakee County School and Alice attended St George High School.

Mortar blast kills six Mexican soldiers during war games

A mortar shell exploded prematurely during rehearsed maneuvers in Mexico City killing six soldiers and injuring 11. Defense Minister Gen. Agustin Olachea ordered an investigation as three artillery regiments conducted the war games.
