La Crescent approves 250000 school bond as snow hinders turnout

In La Crescent Minnesota voters backed a 250000 bond for a new school addition despite a snowstorm. The 186 to 153 vote came from 339 of 1000 eligible voters. Rubber Workers Ready For Talks On Major Contracts

Insurance groups oppose driver financial responsibility bill in Madison

Representatives of the Wisconsin Mutual Insurance Alliance and the Association of Casualty and Surety Companies told a public hearing the measure would cost about 450000 dollars annually to administer. They warned that similar laws elsewhere raise accidents and insurance costs. Proponents led by Assemblyman George Belting argued the bill would aid insurers without extra burden and target uninsured drivers among 110000 annual reportable accidents.

Reserve Center proposal eyed for La Crosse airport

The Department of Defense recommended a $317 000 United States Army Reserve Center at La Crosse Municipal Airport as part of a Wisconsin defense spending package for fiscal 1960. The House Armed Services Committee proposal includes the project and related state allocations totaling more than 23 million for Wisconsin. Rep. Gardner R Withrow of La Crosse said the recommendations face no opposition and "anticipates no opposition to the proposals."
