Allies Agree On Tactics Dulles Says

Secretary of State John Foster Dulles said Western Allies generally agree on procedures to follow if the Soviet Union uses force to block access to Berlin. He pressed for talks toward a general settlement and reported unity in stance after talks in London Paris and Bonn.

Nuclear firepower to shrink Air Force wings by 1960s

The Air Force plans to cut total wings to fewer than 90 over five to six years as missiles and improved bombers replace older B47 units. By end of fiscal 1960 the force may drop from 105 to 102 wings with Atlas and other missile squadrons joining the tally.

Two City Boys Visit Wisconsin Angling Quest Ends in Detention

George Kurylo 11 and Arky Hawrynienko 14 from New York City came to Wisconsin with a fishing rod bow and arrow to hunt and fish and see an Indian. They were detained in Portage after authorities alerted New York about their travel plans and will be returned. Arky said they came seeking a homeland feeling and do not want to go back.

Six Persons Killed In Wisconsin Highway Crashes

A weekend toll of six died in Wisconsin highway crashes including Neil McCann and his wife near Cadott on Highway 29. Other deaths include Harvey H. Stark in Edgerton, Mrs. Susan Cook in Milwaukee, Robert V. Neumann near home on Highway 23, Mrs. Carl J. Haakenson near Sun Prairie, and Myrtle Horan struck by a Soo Line freight train near Chippewa Falls.

Donovan, World War II OSS Chief, Dies at 76

Maj. Gen. William J. Donovan, head of the wartime OSS operations and founder of American covert services, died at Walter Reed Army Hospital after a heart ailment. The Buffalo native and Columbia University alumnus led the Fighting 69th in World War I and earned the Medal of Honor. His legacy includes diplomacy, postwar war crimes work, and praise from Dulles who called him father of US intelligence. He is survived by his wife Ruth Rumsey and son David.
