A pre dawn blaze at a six story Boston transient hotel in the South End killed nine and injured at least fifteen. The Hotel Roosevelt occupied the top five floors with stores on the ground floor. Fire officials suspect a second floor linen closet as the origin while arson and state fire marshal investigations begin.

James Hoeschler owner of the La Crosse Holiday Inn announces a two story addition to the motel. The expansion will add lobby space rooms and sauna baths bringing total rooms to over 250 and making it the fifth largest Holiday Inn of its type in the United States and Canada. Planning is approved construction may start soon and finish within four months. Two Snowmobile Riders Drown at Big Eau Pleine Reservoir
MOSINEE Wisconsin two Marshfield men James Martin thirty and Marvin Dietsche eighteen died when the snowmobile they rode fell through a hole in the ice at Big Eau Pleine Reservoir. Martin had borrowed the sled from a fishing companion and offered Dietsche a ride witnesses said the machine overturned as Martin swerved to avoid the hole.
