A fire at a rural Preston residence five miles southwest of town killed four occupants and injured a fifth, Thomas Yeast, who escaped severely burned. The cause was likely a defective chimney. the large structure burned rapidly with wind aiding the flames. The bodies were found in the wreckage. the house and contents were destroyed with no insurance. Yeast remained in critical condition.
