Marine Patrol Harshly Hit by Red Troops Near Quang Ngai

Eleven Marines on a reconnaissance patrol of the 1st Marine Division near Quang Ngai faced a heavy confrontation with a 60-man Communist detachment. Lance Corporal David E. Verdyn led after the leaders were killed as they were lifted by helicopter. The attack disrupted a large U S Army ammunition depot at Long Binh, the fourth such blast in three months, with dawn air countermeasures and hospital transport following.
