Firefighters from Viroqua and Westby contained the blaze by early evening after removing valuables and preventing spread to nearby offices. Clarence Froiland expected to reopen Froiland's Saturday as crews tackled the scene.

Law Creating Second La Crosse Court Signed
Governor Gaylord Nelson signed the first 1961 legislative bill creating new county court branches in Dodge La Crosse Outagamie and Racine counties. Liner And Freighter Collide In Snowstorm
The passenger liner Nassau and the Norwegian freighter Brett collided in a snowstorm ten miles from Ambrose Light outside New York Harbor.
