Independent truckers threaten nationwide stoppage spreads to Wisconsin

A nationwide truck stoppage spread to Wisconsin as independent drivers parked at stops. Fond du Lac County sheriff reports Gross Common Carrier Inc. received a threatening call at its Wisconsin Rapids HQ. Three drivers were escorted south by sheriff's departments in Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties. Four trucks left Fond du Lac for Milwaukee in pairs. A company spokesman declined to describe the threat.

Bath sharing idea leads to washout at London hotel

AP reports a Somerset couple tried Britains new fuel saving by bathing together in a hotel tub. They forgot to turn off taps causing water to seep into a bar and a ceiling piece to fall. Manager Alan Davey found the nude confused couple, who left at breakfast after guests cheered. He faces a 220 repair bill.

Friday night brings a 60 percent chance of snow with a low near 10. Saturday warms to about 17 with 50 percent snow chances and easterly to southerly winds 8 to 18 mph. Sunday stays cloudy and cold with lows in the low teens.

Wisconsin State Senator Milo Knutson has a leave of absence until February 8. Staff say he is unavailable and not speaking to reporters, but the La Crosse Tribune reports he is staying in Room 10 at Souter's Southern Seas Motel in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Florida. The delay affects the Governmental and Veterans’ Affairs Committee and its plan to consider a same sex protection bill.

Shelby Subdivision Gets City Planners Approval

City Plan Commission approved a 76 lot hillside subdivision while criticizing county road fund policies that deter La Crosse annexation.
