In Key West Florida the city council renamed North Beach Road to Eisenhower Drive after learning President Eisenhower would visit. The street intersects Roosevelt Boulevard and Truman Avenue, named for other presidential guests. Official action to finalize the rename will occur Monday. A street marker will be placed at the corner for the President to see during his drive through town.
President Eisenhower will travel to Key West for a brief Florida visit while his doctors assess his heart condition and his ability to resume a full workload. Mrs. Eisenhower stays in Washington to be with their new granddaughter and to attend as her mother remains in the capital. The trip, announced late yesterday, may influence his decision on seeking a second term as his State of the Union is planned for January 5.
