Agric Predictions Second in Wisconsin Outlook Series
The second of three articles from the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture outlines 1949 dairy and meat trends. Milk production per capita remains near drought years, with 1949 incomes expected to stay high. cow numbers decline but may stabilize. Fluid milk consumption dropped from prewar levels, butter prices stay high, and overall dairy income should match 1948 due to lower feed costs. Meat supplies dip slightly with cattle slaughtering patterns, hog numbers rise, and beef output likely declines as calves decrease.
