Washington AP outlines when major tax relief provisions take effect. At Miramar Naval Air Station a disabled pilotless F-8 Crusader crashed into a hangar, killing 11 and injuring 14. Lt Cyrus M Ridell of San Diego was aboard and uninjured. The jet damaged more than 60 men and a dozen aircraft, with losses estimated over $20 million.
La Crosse Area Board of Education trimmed 412000 from its 1970 budget, lowering from 7.61 million to 7.2 million by cutting five custodians and 15 new instructional positions. The changes affect Central High School staffing, junior highs, and several elementary posts, plus summer school funding.
In Union Grove Wisconsin a young couple Denis Logan, his wife Cheryl 20 and their 3 year old son James were found dead in their mobile home. Police say accidental asphyxiation from a rusted space heater pipe near the ceiling likely caused the deaths. Neighbor Larry Betterang had not seen them since Sunday and alerted Cheryl Logan’s brother-in-law Raymond Ray.

Texas billionaire H Ross Perot arrived in Bangkok to press North Vietnam to permit two planeloads of Christmas gifts for about 1400 American POWs. Advance teams worked from Bangkok and Vientiane to clear routes for 180000 pounds of presents. North Vietnam earlier urged mail deliveries via Moscow and outlined package limits. In Paris Xuan Thuy denounced Perot as provocative for plans to bring women and children to seek information on prisoners.
Washington AP. The tax reform bill cleared Congress and the Senate surrendered on opening more construction jobs to blacks. The Philadelphia plan to promote minority employment on federally funded projects faced a critic veto, but the House struck the anti plan amendment and the Senate followed. The vote clears the way for a Christmas adjournment as 1969’s major legislation moves toward the White House.
