Nurses at Lutheran hospital manage the post office stamp sale for Christmas. Stamps are sold in books of ten and twenty five for convenience. St. Fran hospital booths join in with Thursday selling at La Crosse hospital, amid rivalry to sell the most stickers and determine the final accounting.
In N City Tennessee on December 21 jurors reported delayed deliberations of up to 90 hours. Nine jurors found murder in two cases while one acquitted and another remained unable to reach a verdict.
The Tribune reports a large gift from Hammis brothers at 901 Adams Street with numerous fresh toys filling the counter at the office. Boyer and Furber add rocking chairs and doll carriages. Many donors remain unnamed as the drive continues.

The Interstate Commerce Commission report to Congress calls for a physical valuation of U S railroads to defend rates, guard against rate and rule changes harming shippers, and tighter railroad capitalization control. It notes demurrage code could add 109000 cars, $304233 in annual fines, and reports on lease practices and carrier ownership. It also recommends safety equipment and maintenance campaigns, with per mile running costs and average passenger and freight receipts listed.

Philip Allen Jr unable to appear in court, relatives arrested on conspiracy charges include Mrs Philip Allen Miss Addie Jackson and Guy Roe with bonds set at 5000. News also covers Ballinger Pinchot dispute with Senator Jones urging investigation and Gore proposing joint committee investigation with list of members.
A hotel fire at the Metro Pole Hotel on Ross Avenue in Winnipeg caused a deadly panic. John Allcock a Great Northern Railway car checker died, while Geo Baxter a painter and Hilda Brown a waitress were fatally injured after leaping from windows. Forty others suffered minor injuries from the escape.
A congressional investigation into the Ballinger Pinchot controversy is approved after Senator Flint of California offers a resolution. The resolution passes on the Senate floor, signaling formal inquiry into the matter at hand.

In Managua, Dr. Jose Madriz formally assumes the presidency amid talk of Mexican support and intercession from Creel.
In Minneapolis on December 21 the switchmen's strike deadlock shows its first real crack. Nine of eleven AFL railway council members plus Gov. Eberhart's representative met with Northern Pacific and Great Northern executives to seek settlement behind locked doors. If arbitration is not guaranteed at today’s talks, about five thousand AFL railroad workers stand ready to strike.

The senate in executive session confirmed Robert Bacon as ambassador to France along with 26 other diplomatic nominations sent by the president yesterday.

The University of Copenhagen rejected Dr Frederick A. Cook’s North Pole discovery claims as unsupported by evidence. A special committee found his data no more convincing than his newspaper account. Walter Lonsdale, Cook’s secretary, expressed disappointment and sought further review with additional data.
Commander Robert E. Peary said a Copenhagen dispatch confirms his warning from Labrador three months earlier. He stated he fulfilled his duty to himself and the world by exposing claims about Cook. The cable from Battle Harbor declared Cook has not reached the pole and called his publication a gold brick.
The investigation committee’s findings, approved by the consistory, dismiss the doctor Cook’s notebooks and observations as worthless. They released after noting the notes offered little evidence and criticized his alleged polar ascent telegraphed from Lerwick on September 2, reviving doubts about the North Pole claim.
The forecast shows generally fair conditions with minimal temperature changes in Wisconsin and Iowa. Minnesota expects a colder night, with similar outlook through Wednesday.
