Nine year old Dawnn Bugbee of Holmen found ten balloons tied together in her New Amsterdam yard. A note on the balloons asked the finder to write to Billy Patterson of Waterloo Nebraska. Dawnn’s mother said the balloons launched from Omaha by Billy’s family traveled about 500 miles previously.

16 year old robber suspect ordered to mental test
A 16 year old from Galesville faces juvenile court on armed robbery charges in Holmen and Skogen’s IGA case. A psychiatric evaluation was ordered to decide if he should be tried as an adult. A 22-year-old man from rural Viroqua led a 50 mile pursuit across Richland and Vernon counties, damaging five squad cars. He fled from Richland Center officers, dodged through US Highway 14, and eventually surrendered to Vernon County authorities. No injuries were reported. multiple charges including speeding and eluding are pending.
