New Oat Variety Lodi Introduced by Wisconsin researchers
A new oat variety named Lodi was released by the University of Wisconsin in 1963 with certified seed available in 1964. Developed by H L Shands and colleagues, Lodi offers high yields and stiff straw, tolerates lodging well, and shows good resistance to crown rust, stem rust, and smut though it is more susceptible to Septoria and red leaf disease. It may suit fertile or less fertile soils, and could replace several existing varieties like Ajax and Garry, yielding about 3 bushels per acre more than Garry.
