Membership Approves New A-C Contract

In Milwaukee a new contract between Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co and local 248 UAW CIO was approved by union members. The deal raises wages for about 3,600 of 11,000 workers, via revised time brackets and a minimum pay rise, with an eight percent blanket boost already granted. The agreement runs through next June and includes a supervised strike vote if violations occur.

Henry Noll Dies At 71. Madison Newspaper Veteran

Henry Noll 71 longtime Madison newspaperman and former managing editor of the La Crosse Tribune died of a heart attack at his Madison home Saturday night. He served the Wisconsin Senate and was Dane County coroner elected in 1914 and reelected in 1916. He is survived by his wife and a brother Fred. Funeral arrangements are pending.

The Netherlands informed the United Nations Security Council that intervention is useless in Indonesia. Doom Of Tojo and Japanese Leaders Sealed by Court

The U S Supreme Court refused to intervene in the international military tribunal that condemned former Premier Tojo and six other Japanese wartime officials to death. In a 6-1 ruling the court held it had no authority over the 11 nation tribunal. The decision effectively seals the fate of Tojo and the others, with executions previously stayed by MacArthur awaiting the court’s ruling. Justice Murphy dissented.

Renewed search for gun in Dr. McLoone murder case

The La Crosse Trailer corporation provided an electro magnet to drag the La Crosse river bridge area and marsh along Lang drive as police renewed efforts to locate the gun used in the murder of Dr. James E. McLoone on November 14, 1947. Dragging began shortly after noon and targeted the river, marsh, catch basins and sewers without success.

Pasadena widow Mrs. Hixon dies at home

Mrs. Joseph M. Hixon formerly of La Crosse has passed away at her Pasadena California residence on Sunday according to word received locally.
