New T-H On Early Docket
Washington reports hearings to revise the Taft Hartley labor law as the new Republican House plans to review labor management relations early in February. Rep McConnell says a simple, understandable law is the goal and may draft a bill or a new one if needed. Taft supports amendments. Superior teachers set a January 10 strike unless the Board of Education offers wage increases and funds for school financing. Local 202 secretary O A Zienan says teachers will not return January 10 without the union's demands. The council ordered a $76 000 cut from the budget eliminating the wage fund and some maintenance. The union seeks a $200 raise now and another $200 in next year's contracts for all city schools. A public hearing on the budget is planned tonight with teachers likely to attend.
