Publisher William Randolph Hearst testified about seized Standard Oil correspondence implicating Senator Penrose of Pennsylvania Senator Foraker of Ohio and ex Senator Sibley of Pennsylvania with political influence. La Crosse county Democrats may be asked to raise 500 of the 10000 deficit in the state central committee fund if the national committee is not tapped. John C. Burns says La Crosse could cover its share, though campaign finances were not debated at Milwaukee. The meeting remained peaceful aside from Secretary McLogan’s report raising questions about progressive Democrats and the Wilson campaign. The panel adjourned to await the finance board’s report.

The funeral of Roy D Webb was held yesterday afternoon from his residence at 814 South Third street and from the German Lutheran church at 2 30. Rev Julius Gamm officiated. Pallbearers included Roy Falk Walter Ruplin Harry Fritz Guy Robinson Herbert Skog Stad and Colonel Selfo. Flower girls were Gertrude Ives Hazel Ruplin Vernie Warninger Dora Semsch Adella Munz and Bertha Schilling. Out of town attendees included Carl and Benjamin Webb Mrs Louis Renninger Mr and Mrs Charles Weeghman of Chicago William Luedke of Mankato Mrs Louis Afeldt of Galesville and Mr and Mrs Gus Schuster of Chaseburg. B Ott Sons machine shop employer attended the funeral in a body.

Dayton Ohio December 17 The Burns investigation is on hold as Detective Martin says the grand jury will first probe public gambling before municipal contracts. Reports say men secretly indicted last Saturday may testify in exchange for immunity.
The state tax commission urges ending the personal property levy in Wisconsin. The move follows the Republican platform and would tax real estate only every four years while exempting farmers livestock vehicles and certain property. It cites the income tax as the means to replace the lost revenue and notes banks utilities and autos would remain taxed.
A wagon carrying Mr. and Mrs. Dawson of French Island plunged fourteen feet after being frightened by an about 45 mile an hour green two seated car. Mrs. Dawson broke a wrist and suffered injuries. Mr. Dawson was cut and bruised. The car fled. driver unknown. Medical aid called at Rudolph farm. witnesses reported two occupants in the vehicle.
Police arrested an unidentified man believed insane and held him awaiting developments. A letter on his clothing addressed to Harvey Randell of New Albia Iowa suggests the name Randell and home New Albin. He asked for Mr Sherwood at 609 South Fourth Street, a resident who does not appear to exist.
The secretary of the treasury ordered the commander at San Francisco to send a vessel in search of aviator Horace Kearney and passenger Chester Lawrence who were believed lost during a hydro aeroplane flight from Newport Bay Los Angeles to San Francisco.
