County Board confirms William Bush's appointment of Ronald Lievens to replace the late Ernest Kowal as 24th District supervisor. Lievens, 40, is chairman of Medary Town Planning Committee and an engineer at Trane Co. He resides at 708 Krueger Court, Onalaska.
Management expert Francis Rost says La Crosse County could save about 375000 by implementing 37 recommendations from Rost Associates. He proposes a director of finance and administration, centralized purchasing, expanded budgeting, and expanded duplicating services, with potential further savings in follow up studies.
St Francis Hospital seeks a 14 million expansion to relocate and consolidate facilities and expand out patient care. Administrator Stewart Laird says groundbreaking could occur in June or July if approved by WWHSA and the Wisconsin state authorities, with a two year construction window. No new beds. focus is on compacting operations and cutting annual costs by at least 100 thousand dollars.
Six cars of the Chicago bound San Francisco Zephyr plunged down a 35 foot embankment near Omaha injuring at least 46. Most injuries were minor with 27 year old Greg J. Gee among the seriously hurt.
