A bomb exploded at the corner of Samuel Baum’s costly Danville home, a retired farmer and money lender, wrecking part of his house and injuring the Baum family. Nearby residences were damaged. Monongah West Virginia December 10 19 09 By noon today 145 bodies had been taken from the wrecked mines and rescuers said most unburied victims had been removed. Work continued rapidly and they believed the total dead would not exceed 362 though officials at the mine doubted the figure.

In Chicago a Newfoundland sacrificed its life protecting Mrs. Elmer G. Case wife of a pie manufacturer. An intruder stormed the home terrorizing Mrs. Case and her maid before stabbing the dog to death and escaping.
In United States district court at Madison on December 10 before Judge A L Sanborn the case of Superior Drill of Springfield Ohio and William Van Brunt of Horicon Wisconsin versus La Crosse Plow of La Crosse Wisconsin was called for argument over patent infringement damages. Fred Gurlach of Chicago represents La Crosse and Border Bourman of Springfield represents the complainants. The case likely will be continued until tomorrow.
Mrs J B Williams of La Crescent died yesterday morning after a brief illness at her home. Aged 64, she had lived in La Crescent 18 years after moving from Ohio. Survived by her husband and three daughters Mrs Knox, Mrs M Vier, and Mrs Larson. Funeral at 1 p m tomorrow from the family residence. interment in La Crescent cemetery. McKinley Post Relief Corps No 198 elected new officers: President Mrs Helen Withrow, Senior VP Mrs Helen Turner, Junior VP Mrs Calkins, Treasurer Mrs Henrietta Manstadt, Chaplain Mrs Schaeffer, Conductor Mrs Sarah Luther, Guard Mrs Langdon, Delegate Miss Lulu Wachmuth, Alternate Mrs Helen Turner.
Officer Larry Dugan pursued a man through the city after blood traces led to John Hetzinger of Hokah. Hetzinger slipped on ice, cut himself, and required treatment from Dr. Dorset on North Fifth Street before being taken home to recover.
Hopkinsville Kentucky December 10 one night rider is killed in a pitched battle with a pursuing posse. The dead man is W Gray aged 20. James Morris has been arrested charged with membership in the night rider gang. Gov Elect Willson will seek troops from the President Roosevelt defense plan.
Washington Dec 10 The resolution by deratic senators demanding an investigation of the treasury financial operations was sent to the finance committee with Chairman Aldrich pledging a report on the inquiry into the present financial system within the week.
Leonard Lottridge files a suit against the County History Company alleging an incorrect biographical sketch was published without foundation or verification. The firm is said to be supervised by Mr. Bryant in Madison.
Governor A E Wilson was sworn in at Frankfort and delivered his inaugural address amid about 15 900 attendees. Mayor Hume presented retiring Governor Beckhan with a testimonial honoring his public service and kindness.
A license to wed was today granted to Henry C. Mix and Harriet Lambert, both of La Grosse. The ceremony will take place at Sparta.

The daughter of Louis Linker traveling auditor at Heileman Brewing fell from the second story window at 139 South Seventh Street Sunday morning and remained unconscious for over 48 hours. Doctors Evans Gunderson and Christianson attend. Hope for recovery remains.
