Medary School & Workshop and Riverfront Activity Center merge after a four month feud to create a unified nine nine two board with nine members from Medary, nine from Riverfront, and two parent representatives. Charles Redel elected president. Chase Avery named director at 9600 dollars annually.
Thomas Avery is named director of the Riverfront Activity Center at 105 Market St amid board grumbles from Medary School & Workshop Center members. The unanimous approval followed a contentious merged board vote after prior funding disputes and a resignation. Avery cites three years in sporting goods management and studies at U of Illinois and UWL, with a DoB at 719 Losey Blvd. home for eight adults.
Don Harris of Brodhead Wisconsin discusses his bout with swine flu the first confirmed case since the vaccination program began. He and his wife Debra question the need for shots and say they will not vaccinate their 1 year old son. Harris says the illness felt different and he did not catch it from hogs.
The La Crosse area recorded subzero temperatures for a second consecutive morning with 11 degrees as the low. National Weather Service says Thursday will see minus five with a warming trend and snow shifting across the state, reaching 20 by day’s end.
In Philadelphia a judge will hear a joint case next week involving Earl Patterson 33 charged with kidnapping felonious restraint aggravated assault terroristic threats and weapons in a dispute over a rape case. Carl Butler 34 faces rape robbery theft and assault charges. Patterson held his neighbor for 22 hours claiming a citizen arrest after his wife Maxim 35 was attacked last January. Butler says the arrest was coerced.
La Crosse officials vote 14 to 6 to deny raising Losey Boulevard speed to 35 mph. Police chief pledges strict enforcement of 25 mph, while admiting many drive 35 mph. Traffic studies show 90 to 95 percent travel at 35 mph despite limits. Public concerns focus on pedestrian safety near nine schools.
