U S and Vietnamese troops push through jungles in South Viet Nam as American planes Intensify raids on North and South Viet Nam. A Marine helicopter with four Americans and nine Vietnamese aboard was shot down near Da Nang. all listed as presumed dead.
At the United Nations the Soviet Union charged the United States with aggression in Viet Nam and pledged continued support to North Viet Nam. Ambassador Fedorenko condemned U S military intervention while urging withdrawal of U S forces and noting Soviet aid to the North. He also accused to U S actions in Laos and Saigon backed attacks on Cambodia. US spokesmen reported intense anti air fire during raids on North Viet Nam.
The United States showed willingness to attend almost any Southeast Asia peace conference after a Stewart Moscow TV proposal for a cease fire. Stewart later said the Soviet Union has no authority to negotiate. Johnson, in a telephone address to business leaders, affirmed readiness to talk unconditionally with peace as the agenda.
Norman L Kishbaugh, a 40 year old staff sergeant from Peekskill New York, decided to respond to antiwar protests by requesting active duty in the Marine Corps. He handed in his request and today departs New York by plane to Camp Pendleton California with his wife and two children at home.

News media filed a temporary restraining order to stop exclusion from aldermanic and school board caucuses. Aldermen postponed four nominations until the order is contested after a conference with city attorneys. The dispute cites anti secrecy laws and public right to information.

Donald Wuest 51 of 1616 Kane St died in a one vehicle crash near Cochrane Buffalo County at about 9 p.m. Thursday. His car left a curve on Highway 35, traveled 300 feet into a cornfield, and was found 60 feet from the wreck. icy roads from freezing rain were reported. Wuest, manager of Tri State Screw Products, was returning from a Minneapolis trip. He is survived by his widow Ferne two sons Richard E. and William T., parents, a sister and two brothers. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at North Presbyterian Church with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The Business men's Club of Buffalo Center Iowa with 1200 residents plans to divert its Christmas promotion funds to U S servicemen in Vietnam. A local veterans group will distribute the gifts and members will receive lapel flags under Operation Show Your Colors. The club hopes other groups will adopt the idea.
NAACP leaders announce an end to a major Natchez boycott after 23 stores met demands for more job opportunities and the city agreed to 12 civil rights concessions. Archie Jones notes 21 stores were removed earlier, while some groups oppose the settlement and plan protests.
