Defense Department Holds Line On Draft Policy Through 1953
The Defense Department opposes changes to draft deferment rules for fathers and students until early 1954, citing enough eligible men under present laws. It estimates about 531,000 draft calls for the full fiscal year ending June 30, with February and March near 50,000 each, and cites higher enlistments and lower casualties for the drop from earlier 610,000 projections.
