20 Bodies Of Morrell Crew Found
The Coast Guard recovered 20 Morrell crew members after the 603-foot ore carrier sank in Lake Huron during a gale. One survivor, Dennis Hale, 26, from Ashtabula, Ohio, aided by a five member board of inquiry to investigate missing eight crewmen and puzzling facts of the disaster. The Morrell sank about two hours after sending a routine position report, raising questions about why the vessel went down while its sister ship Townsend rode out the storm. The inquiry will convene in Cleveland.
