A deadly blaze claimed the lives of seven children as flames destroyed a dwelling near a town. Firefighters say the victims, nearly a thousand residents nearby, were led to safety by volunteers before the building collapsed.
Fire at St Malachy’s Rockaway Park summer home for Catholic children kills seven young inmates aged 2 to 12. Firemen recover charred bodies from the ruins as sisters and Hebrew sanitarium residents help evacuate others. Nearly 1,900 child histories destroyed, hindering identifications.
In Kansas City Mrs Bleakley, mother of Marian Bleakley, pushes for prosecution of Mrs Stella Barcklay who kidnapped the infant. A lone masked highwayman dynamited the engine of Pennsylvania Railroad Train No. 39 at Lewiston Narrows and robbed the express car of $5000 in bullion and thousands of Lincoln pennies. Conductor Poffenberger was shot in the left hand. the robber escaped with sacks of gold and pennies, leaving the bullion sack behind.

Two Polish workmen employed by Comgrador Hildebrand on the Mississippi street sewer contract were buried yesterday when the overflow ditch sides caved in. They were rescued by fellow workers before suffocation as the cave-in was not serious. The accident occurred at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon and Burlington trains use the side track at the point due to the weakened main track.

The Steamer Nicholas with a twenty six crew and two passengers sailing August 21 from Havana was found wrecked on a reef south of the Isle of Pines. Ten bodies were found on shore, and there is no sign that any aboard survived. The ship's lifeboats were missing, suggesting a futile attempt to reach shore.
