A massive fire in Portland destroys two city blocks, wrecks streetcar bridges, and halts traffic. The blaze began at the condemned Iowa hotel on Broadway, hindering response and prompting dynamite use to limit spread. Loss runs into hundreds of thousands. an elevated street collapsed trapping a fire crew.
A fire in Lansing Michigan destroyed a home this morning killing Harry Simmons and his five year old daughter. His wife suffered fatal burns as authorities investigated the blaze.
A year long romance ended quietly last night as William Whittemore and Miss Margaret Gaspard wed at 521 Ferry Street in the home of A. O. Black. Rev. W. H. Vance officiated and the couple will reside at 510 King Street. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gaspard, is a popular social figure. the groom, a Skowhegan Maine native, is city solicitor for Schertz Wiltz company and a member of Dana's band.

In Black River H Ruedtke of La Crosse Street nearly drowned pulling a 42 pound catfish from a set line. The boat capsized as the fish lurched back and dragged him overboard. Friends nearby helped retrieve Ruedtke and land the big catch, which measured over four feet long with a head over a foot wide.
A cyclone swept Rushford Lanesboro and Pilgrim Mound area causing loss of life and heavy property damage. Tosten Danielson died in a church at Root Prairie. Frank Sanders home wrecked injuring Mrs Sanders. A severe storm hit Black River Falls with a lightning fire at Taylor Norwegian Lutheran church causing about 4000 dollars in losses.
