In East Middleboro Mass on Aug 18 the red army brigade and five artillery batteries overwhelmed the blue Massachusetts infantry. General Bliss ordered a break camp and began a six mile coastal retreat toward Robins Pond Bridgewater. The retreat, amid mud and rain, continued with blues regroups and a planned future clash near Port Hampton Halifax.
