Albert Bergans, a carpenter by trade, drowned Sunday while boating with friends. The accident occurred on a Mississippi river section where Bergans and another man were fishing when mishap led to fatalities.
Albert Bergans a 55 year old carpenter of 1228 South Fourteenth street drowned in the Mississippi River one mile south of Gund's brewery in front of a picnic crowd. Rescue efforts with boats and grappling hooks continued after divers and dynamite attempts failed to locate the body as swift currents and river pockets hindered the search.
William H. Klowitter 60 a contractor of 903 Farnam Street disappeared while returning home from a fishing trip near Runningslough yesterday afternoon. He left his two sons to continue fishing and set out on foot at about 3 pm. A search of the route he could have taken continued through the night with no trace found. Authorities consider drowning the most likely explanation. he leaves a wife and four children.
William Young the quarryman who struck August Gram l with a whip during a quarrel at the foot of Grand dad bluff, must pay Gram l twenty dollars for the two blows or ten dollars per blow. Gram l sued in Justice Prentiss court after choosing civil action over criminal arrest. Judge Prentiss ruled Friday for Gram l, awarding $20 and costs.
In Wostor Ohio on August 14 the Taggart trial resumed with Taggart taking the stand. The judge’s questions focused on the Taggart household at Seaworth and liquor use. The witness cited impracticality of stopping alcohol in the home as a reason after finding his wife drinking to excess. Cross examination continued at noon and was not finished before the day ended.

A Spencer's Bridge special reports a landslide half a mile west of Thompson River burying many Indians as a Canadian Pacific train passengers watched. A few mangled bodies were found at the edge, most buried about forty feet deep under the mountain.

Miss Cora Josten daughter of William Josten La Crosse Box company proprietor died last night at the family home 1016 South Seventh street after a year with tuberculosis. She was born in La Crosse and educated in its public schools. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 30 from the home with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.
