A U S District Court jury found five defendants guilty of first degree murder assault and robbery for the Fountain Valley Golf Club massacre on St Croix. The verdict followed deliberations that began August 4 and come after three murders over the weekend.
A diamond ring worth 250 dollars was reported stolen from a key chain by Mrs. Francis Temp. Two motorcycle helmets valued at 40 dollars belonging to Peter Krause were taken from a bike outside Ye Old Style Inn. A hotel clerk and her 74 year old mother were found beaten to death in the weekend killings on St. Croix, raising murder counts and sparking investigations into possible racial motive amid broader violence. A Fountain Valley murder trial saw five defendants convicted on eight counts related to a September golf club raid, with multiple victims listed. Slayings on St. Croix included restaurant owner Stanley Radulovic and two women beaten in their home near Christiansted. Judith L. Dixon an 18 year old of 344 North 5th Avenue Onalaska was thrown from her bicycle when the front wheel caught a sewer grating. She was taken to St Francis Hospital treated and released. The incident occurred in the 600 block of Losey Boulevard. The weather forecast notes showers and thunderstorms diminishing tonight with fair conditions expected elsewhere and through Tuesday across Wisconsin Minnesota and Iowa.
A 17 year old La Crosse boy was detained for possession of marijuana and amphetamines with intent to sell. A 16 year old La Crosse boy faced possession of marijuana. The arrests occurred at 81142 Rose St after a leading youth was detained nearby for drunkenness and curfew violations. All youths were released to parents.
Two teens drowned in area lakes on Sunday. Tina Rae Sorenson, 9, of Reedsburg, floated alone in an inner tube on Lake Hillsboro and could not swim. she was found in about three hours. Michael Oestreich, 18, of Loyal, disappeared while swimming near a buoy on Lake Arbutus at Hatfield. his body was recovered after about an hour.
A 13 year old boy, Michael E Burnett of Eleva, fell from a tractor and was run over by a rear wheel on the Eugene Gill farm while harvesting grain. He died at Mondovi hospital after the incident Sunday evening. Burnett was a seventh grade student at Gilmanton School and the body was taken to Kjvent Funeral Home in Mondovi.
