The August meteor shower underperformed despite peak display expectations. Moonlight hindered viewing while meteors appeared from Perseus, traveling about thirty miles per second and 40 to 80 miles high. Earth’s passage through dusty debris causes the shower, with many stones later found on Earth though most burn up in the atmosphere.
