Brannan Plan Faces Congress Backlash in Farms Drive
The Truman administration intensifies sales efforts for the Brannan farm plan amid congressional resistance. Secretary Brannan tours the Midwest and South promoting the plan while Knox Hutchinson takes a deputy post to boost campaign momentum. A Senate compromise would limit the production payments provision, with farm legislation likely a major issue in next year’s elections.

City and hotel owner near settlement over wall dispute
City Attorney Fred Steele told the common council the hotel owner Jeanette Gannett has agreed to a settlement over the wall adjoining 119 Pearl Street. The city would give the wall to the owner and in return she would release the city from further responsibility. A survey had shown repairs could cost about 5200 if the wall stood alone. Wrecking of the wall had paused after finding the east wall also serves as the hotel west wall. If approved, the settlement should end the dispute.
