Berliners fear a new Munich as four power talks in Moscow consider Western concessions. The Moscow discussions are secret with Washington signaling possible German withdrawal steps. Despite rain, British and American convoys delivered record cargo to the blockaded city, while the Soviet press protested air violations.
Washington Senator Murray of Montana on Saturday defended farmers from inflation blame. In a floor speech he called Republican accusations in the East dishonest and said farm prices rise mainly due to monopolistic actions in steel and other industrial goods, not farmers. He noted farmers face higher costs for clothing, equipment, fuel and supplies, and warned they bear the impact of inflation the most.
The United States Navy announced that construction will begin soon on a $100,000,000 giant flush deck air craft carrier. The ship will be the largest afloat with a water line length over 1000 feet and a beam of 130 feet, 20 feet wider than the Panama.

About 30,000 visitors entered by noon as 2,000 homing pigeons were released and midget racers prepared for an upcoming 100 mile event. Racine Day, with a 100 piece band and 90 voice chorus, followed by Children’s Day.
Dallas store owner J. Hugh Campbell reports a 3000 percent surge in Confederate flag sales, driven by the Dixiecrat movement against President Truman. He notes orders jumped from 25–30 calls a year to several daily as customers insist on fast delivery.

Louis Stephen St Laurent, French Canadian external affairs minister, was elected leader of the National Liberal party on the first ballot, defeating James Garfield Gardiner and C. C. Power. He will become prime minister when King retires, likely by year end, as the party’s long dominant head.
City council in a special informal session directed the city attorney to secure information and papers to begin condemnation against Fifth Avenue and Cass Street property for conversion into a housing project. Mayor Beranek led the session with emergency housing committee members to save the 15 apartment building from destruction for a public garage. In a separate justice court verdict Johnson Motor Co won eviction against tenant Jake Mickschl.
La Crosse merchants announce a two day Dollar Day event Monday and Tuesday the first ever two day sale after the war with citywide participation north and south sides. Bargains cover summer and fall items with many prices between three and five dollars while some items carry deeper discounts up to twenty to thirty percent on rugs blouses and yard goods. Shoppers are urged to visit La Crosse stores to save using common cents even as some items carry three to four yard discounts.

The U S also controls about 700 river barges in Germany and Austria and river control above Linz.
