McCarthy Attacks Brannan Over Rye Policy Plan

Senator McCarthy charged Secretary of Agriculture Brannan with a plan to aid Polish and Russian farmers and criticized rye pricing. He said Brannan’s policies deprive American farmers of a market for seven to nine million bushels and tied army buys to barter with England for rye from Poland and Russia. He noted government loan rates and questioned officials about the rye market while senators joked about bourbon.
