Hero of Three Wars Dies at 110 in Newcastle

Amies Martin, 110, of Newcastle Pennsylvania, veteran of the War of 1812 Mexican and Civil Wars, died after a lifetime without illness. Born in Scotland in 1798, he enlisted as a boy in 1812 and was wounded at Bull Run when a minie ball pierced his head. He lived across three centuries and was America’s oldest veteran.
