An early morning thunderstorm with gusts up to 97 mph blasted La Crosse County. At the Interstate Fair near West Salem six tents were lost and two rides blown down, with the 4-H tent, refreshment tents, and several others damaged while permanent structures remained intact. Two planes at the airport were damaged and a Beechcraft Bonanza was a total loss. Power lines and telephone service were disrupted and county authorities used radio to coordinate repairs.

Dynamite Found by Children in St. Cloud Woods
