George Rose and A Wolf, two well known young men, set a walking record by reaching the Winona Hotel from the Stoddard Hotel in 6 hours 48 minutes and 5 seconds. Starting at 5:12 a.m., they crossed the Milwaukee railroad bridge, traveled 29 blocks in 25 minutes and completed the trek despite doubters, then returned by train after reaching the hotel.
An unknown 15 year old girl in Duluth Minnesota bought carbolic acid at a drug store and swallowed it. She left a note accusing her mother, and authorities identified her only by a locket. The girl is described as dying from the attempt.

New York April 20 Henry Chadwick known as the father of American baseball died at his Brooklyn home this afternoon after a brief pneumonia illness. Chadwick who was called Pop attended the opening game at Washington Park between Brooklyn and Boston and was given an ovation before contracting a heavy cold that developed into pneumonia and heart failure.
Arsene Beadin set out from Portland on April 20 to duplicate Edward Payson Weston's road journey to beat his record. He aims to cover the distance to Chicago in 23 to 24 days, despite a short stride at five feet four inches tall.

Robbers broke into Adolph Oberlander’s barbershop at 904 South Fourth last night after midnight, taking about $30 worth of tools and cigars.
