Building Inspector Eu gene Dally issued a permit Tuesday afternoon to demolish the Wisconsin Theater Building on Main Street for the Catholic Diocese of La Crosse owner Harry Viner began tearing down the structure for a $7000 payoff if substantially demolished by May 1 or $5000 otherwise. The diocese plans a rectory new diocesan building and possibly a cathedral school on the half block bordered by 6th Street Main Street King Street and the alley. Negotiations with tenants east of the theater could allow tear down of their building too.

Know Motor Service Inc of Rockford Illinois sues in Wisconsin Circuit Court challenging a 1961 law that $10 truck fees collected are passed to the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association. The suit names the state, the Motor Vehicle Department and the Department of Administration as defendants, alleging unfair discrimination against intrastate common carriers and that the state acts as a collection agent for a private group.
