Water rises rapidly washing away rail bridges and ranch buildings while the Boston Montana smelter area is at risk and workers scramble to build flood walls and dynamite a dam as towns evacuate with possible fatalities.
Attorneys JohnS Miller and Moritz Rosenthal start preparing the appeal from the Elkins act case against Standard Oil Co. The Supreme fine of 29 million dollars stands as the target of their arguments with May 7 set for opening remarks and the next day for the counter. The duo contest construction of the Elkins act, government compliance, and the fine as excessive and unconstitutional.

Milwaukee Wis April 15 B Smith former treasurer of the Fional Wholesale Grocers association and president of Smith Indike Brown company the largest wholesale grocers in the northwest was sentenced to two years in the house of correction after pleading guilty to accepting 57 under false representations as his credit The charge was brought by Oliver Mason a broker.
Marion Gray the affinity broker in Elgin was sentenced by Judge Landis to one year in the house of correction. Newell, her attorney, argued newspapers shared guilt with the defendant. the court ruled papers acted as agents. Gray allegedly collected about $3,000 with half paid to ads for blind notices.

In Northampton on April 15, John Tracy asked Streets Superintendent George Birge for work. After Birge refused, Tracy shot Birge and then killed himself, authorities reported.
