In a heated assembly debate today a coup to shield Uncle Ike stalls as Zimmerman promises to reveal a committee bribe offer of 1500 dollars. Stephenson and allied men push hard while gents seek to anchor a Senate probe into the controversy.
Madison April 1 The Bray resolution would create a joint committee to probe Stephenson’s election by the legislature with a three senator five member panel. Assemblymen push for an assembly only inquiry to avoid whitewashing the Stephenson charges. A witness reveals a $1500 offer to stay off the floor as the session adjourns until tomorrow.
C W Soerch of Los Angeles announced a dirigible balloon destroyer that he says can destroy any balloon or distance of ten miles. He plans to use a powerful electric spark to ignite the gas but gave no further details.
The La Crosse County Medical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight in La Crosse. Routine business will be transacted followed by a social session.
Madison April 1 Assemblyman J E McConnell of La Crosse author of a park purchase bill says public parks and playgrounds are a healthful modern trend. He notes Wisconsin cities will soon provide park systems by taxation or philanthropy and urges state action and funding for park acquisitions.

In Washington April 1 the government’s bid to dissolve the Harriman lines is temporarily halted while a brief conference with the attorney general is arranged.
In Lansing Iowa on April 1 Mayor Dunlevy was assaulted on the street by William McGarry known as Shy McGarry. The mayor’s son William and Leo Tully restrained McGarry who was jailed. McGarry, a parolee from Knoxville Inebriate Asylum, is described as a dangerous man and faces further action.
The La Crosse Trades and Labor council faces scrutiny over alleged missteps while the paper defends Day as union honest and urges support based on verified dues and conduct. It also highlights John Swan’s qualifications for city clerk and mocks Joe Sieger's competence claim. Swan pledges not to seek a third term.
Jack Johnson, famed heavyweight, paid a $20 fine in Magistrate Kernochan's court after entering no defense on a charge of attempting to commit a statutory offense. Amy Douglas, a mixed-race complainant, testified. she and another witness left the courtroom as Johnson paid the fine in dramatic fashion. Earlier, Magistrate Kernochan held Joseph Netherland on $1,000 bail for attempting to bribe Douglas to drop the case.
John Fisher, 68, and James A. Rayburn time a Plane Valley private detective, were shot and killed by Everett White, an ex deputy town marshal, as they entered his barn to market their horses. White surrendered and faces a hearing as an inquest proceeds amid high excitement and expectations of a disclosure.
Taft nominates Geo. E. Kirkpatrick of Rushford Wisconsin F L Davis of Camp Douglas and J Wiggins of North Freedom as postmasters in Minnesota and Wisconsin with the slate announced today.

Ludwig Krueger, a farmer, and his wife were found buried beneath the cellar floor of their Central avenue and Monroe street home after the house burned early this morning. The victims were interred in a shallow grave with bricks placed around the area.

Wm Harris alias The Hoosier Kid, famed post office robber, is in custody in Chicago awaiting Buffalo police action. Partner Pat Yon ker alias Drake is also jailed on suspicion tied to a recent $10,000 Imogene bank robbery. Harris faces Buffalo charges for robbing the Fillmore New York post office in 1908.
Two striking women in gowns and three men formed a group of card sharpers that fleeced passengers of the Hamburg American liner Amerika for several thousand dollars during the voyage ending last night. The women are said to be well known figures in New York City gilded restaurants.
After a 13 hour voyage a new Zeppelin landed at Dingolfing due to a rear motor failure. Count Zeppelin and 14 guests fear for safety as the storm drives the airship toward Munich with mobile units and cavalry in pursuit. Zeppelin planned to land before the Munich guards.
Wisconsin partly cloudy with possible threat tonight and Friday as temperatures rise. La Crosse expected 28 at dawn, 48 high with light wind around 7 am. Minnesota forecast shows rain or snow in northeast, cooler west Friday, overall unsettled with partly cloudy periods.
