Christine Haupert, a senior at La Crosse Logan High School, named 1963 Apple Festival Queen at the 15th annual banquet in Crucifixion Auditorium with Sen. Eugene McCarthy as speaker. Runner up were Karen McCaffrey, LaLonne Kelley, Linda Holthaus, and Sherry Grodevant from twenty entrants. Christine plans languages study possibly at the University of Minnesota and was sponsored by Consolidated Builders. McCarthy urged civic responsibility and discussed defense, the test ban treaty, and America’s future.
