La Crosse Common Council opens adjourned session at 7 30 p m to discuss two items parking facilities on Market Square funded by revenue bonds and a ban on chlorine in the public water system except for emergencies. The chamber of commerce supports the ramp plan and has provided a nine page brochure.
Paul Bork an 80 year old Marshland man has been missing since Friday afternoon. Bloodhounds from La Crosse aided the search Saturday. He went fishing on the Mississippi River near the Hunger farm and a bait sack was found on the river bank. A river entry is suspected though no body found. Sheriff Ernest Axness and Game Warden Fred Gardner lead the hunt near Marshland on STH 35 north of Trempealeau.
A Wisconsin Reserve Officers banquet heard Franklin L. Orth pledge a drive for compulsory reserve participation after basic training. New RCA officers were elected including Lt Col Roy W Peters as president and Navy Lt G Lester Steinhoff as vice president, with Eisenhower’s NSC backing anticipated for corrective legislation.
Democratic National Chairman Stephen A Mitchell says farmers and dependents are victims of a Republican confidence game. He accuses President Truman era parity claims and urges continued McCarthy Army hearings to expose executive power overreach.
Wisconsin Senator McCarthy urges President Eisenhower to recall Teapot Dome precedents as he defends his clash with the Army. He cites 1924 actions by Coolidge and vows to testify if summoned, while criticizing limits on access to officials and staff disclosures.

Bauch is a freshman in a two year rural teaching course and active in 4 H and college clubs. McCabe is a freshman majoring in speech and was national FHA president in high school.
French air strikes near Hanoi disrupt Vietminh positions in the Red River Delta while relief columns liberate two small forts from encirclement. Vietminh forces surrounding Phuly threaten the area as Hanoi’s defenses brace for further action.
Boston Secretary Weeks said the world’s standard of living could rise 25-fold if Russia joins a global effort to apply atomic energy to peaceful uses. He cited information suggesting atomic reserves could reach 90 trillion tons of coal, enabling universal prosperity beyond today’s level.
Weeks and Robert LeBaron advocate creating a Manhattan District to speed peaceful atom development. A crash program would raise living standards and decentralize industry as a defense against atomic warfare.
