Two Illinois Guardsmen Dead In Plane Crash Near Sparta
A light plane struck during a blizzard near Sparta Wisconsin killing two Illinois National Guard majors and injuring two officers. The crash occurred about six p.m. nine miles south of Sparta on the Lee Wells farm. The deceased were Maj. Robert F. McDonald and Maj. Bryan C. Nudd. Injured are Col. Richard D. Boerem and Lt. Col. Harold F. Pacha, both Springfield residents, hospitalized in Sparta. Col. James B. MacDougall led the investigation and noted the aircraft type was not yet known.
