Ex Crawford DA Judge Cullen Dies at 81 in Prairie du Chien
James P. Cullen 81 of Prairie du Chien, former Crawford County district attorney and county judge, died Saturday. Services Tuesday at St. Gabriel’s Church with burial in Prairie du Chien Cemetery and military honors. Surviving are Leone O’Neil and several siblings. He served as district attorney 14 years, then county judge from 1947 to 1961.

Two Private Plane Crashes Near Tomah Leave No Injuries
Two separate private airplanes crashed within minutes near Tomah Wisconsin. George Spergel and his sons were in one crash near Warrens after striking a power line and landing upside down in a pond. Chuck Purple and his wife and daughter were in the other crash north of the Tomah airport after hitting a power pole guide line while attempting takeoff from a field. A southbound lane of South Avenue near 4th Street buckled about 6 15 p m Saturday. The west half rose about a foot while the east cracked. Police closed the lane with detours east on Jackson Street and traffic resumed northbound on 4th Street. The section may stay closed through Tuesday. Eugene Fuchs reported a loud explosion-like sound as the street settled. A railroad track nearby was deemed safe by a state engineer.
