About 30 people gathered at Man-Lay Garden to join Mrs Marian S Ramlow of 2610 Cass St in a peaceful Saturday protest against President Nixon. She voiced tragedy over Vietnam War while preferring a happier view of the President and called for no more bombs for diplomacy.
Protesters filled Washington streets with antiwar chants and a 45 000 strong crowd at the Washington Monument grounds as police reported 36 arrests. Shouted calls for a cease fire and peace talks accompanied clashes near Pennsylvania Avenue with objects hurled at Nixon’s limousine.
President Nixon was sworn in for a second term and forecast a new era of world peace as the Vietnam war nears end. He spoke of self reliance, discussed peace talks in Paris, and praised steadfastness for peace with honor amid large crowds and protests.

Four young gunmen in a Brooklyn sporting goods store siege vowed to fight to the death as police continued the long standoff. A doctor treated a wounded hostage and warned against storming the shop, while six men and three women remained captive after a fatal earlier exchange.
