White House aides project special Viet Nam war costs at 10.5 billion for fiscal 1967 up from 4.7 billion this year. The rise may reflect manpower, equipment, weapons, and base costs. Details of the budget will be sent to Congress January 24.

Engagement announced for Margaret Jane Fuller and Henry Mead Kaiser both seniors at Lawrence University Appleton. The couple met at Lawrence and plan a La Crosse church wedding after graduation and grad studies.
A three year old boy from Horicon, Dean Seboe, was killed when a car driven by his father skidded on Highway 33 near Horicon and nosed into a ditch. His mother Dorris suffered a broken collar bone and a 16 year old daughter received a facial laceration. two other children were not seriously hurt. Also reported: Robert Klutterman died in a collision with a train at a Dane County crossing in Morrisonville. Eugene Lindell died when his car hit a bridge over Highway 70 in Stone Lake.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk, returning to the United States, said the Saigon talks show the United States and South Vietnam in close harmony to seek peace. A joint communique pledged continued military action against Communists and U.S. support for Viet Nam’s economy and security.
Milwaukee Bay View High School students completed a small white biplane as a three year classroom project using plans from the Experimental Aircraft Association. Col. Paul Poberezny test flew the craft at Gen. Mitchell Field praising the students and the principal said such projects teach useful skills beyond books.
The Wisconsin Republican executive committee on Saturday stripped Milwaukee County from its voluntary board and installed a new nine member county council to operate the county headquarters, coordinate campaigns, and supervise voter registration. Vincent A. Mercurio, chair of the 4th District, suffered a heart attack but remained at the meeting.
U S sources see Nigeria s upheaval as a setback to democratic progress in Africa though no anti American signficance is noted. Nigeria received aid pledges and current programs totaling tens of millions annually while troops seize Lagos and falter in confirming control.
Ninety World War I veterans aged 66 to 67 and older have written to President Johnson offering to serve in limited combat duty in Vietnam. The veterans from Joseph F. Waldron barracks No. 1986 say they can walk miles with rifle and gear to draw fire and uncover ambushes and booby traps. Ezra J. Swift, 67, helped initiate the plan as the group voted unanimously in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Milwaukee will welcome a federal team of labor and commerce specialists next week to study the local labor shortage. The survey aims to serve as a pilot project for nationwide use in addressing shortages.
Postmaster General Lawrence F. O'Brien announced that speedy delivery will reach 250000 pounds of delayed Christmas mail from Viet Nam. The cargo aboard the SS Williamette Victory left Saigon last November, spent a month at sea, then returned to port due to engine trouble with the mail still aboard.
