Congress eyed tax relief primarily through higher personal exemptions with the House starting rate cuts in 1972 and the Senate proposing 100 dollar per person exemptions in 1970 and 1971. Mills signaled a possible compromise starting exemption relief in 1971 while seeking inflation curb.
Carmine G. DeSapio, once a prominent Democratic leader, was found guilty on all three counts of bribery conspiracy in a New York federal trial. Antonio Corallo was convicted on one count. Jurors deliberated 642 hours over 21 days of trial, with DeSapio facing up to 15 years and a $30,000 fine.

Five deaths in weekend accidents raise Wisconsin 1969 traffic toll to 1,093. Joanne Brunn, 20, of Platteville, died after her car hit a tractor on Highway 82 near Mauston. Also killed were Janie Stendahl 52, Alice Janaki 54, and Margarita Hause 42. Debra Hause, 17, was saved after passerby Howard Wood leaped into the river. Debris shows a 15 foot high bridge and 12 foot deep water. John Schwerm, 23, of Waukesha, died from injuries after a head on crash on Milwaukee East-West Freeway. William Koosman, 69, of Millen, died in a ditch fire on Ashland County Trunk G6 near Mellen.
A 50 pound three tier wedding cake for Tiny Tim and Vicki Budinger is to be baked at Three Little Bakers Shop in Wilmington. The couple will marry on network TV Wednesday night with a long haired miniature bridegroom. The cake requires at least six hours of baking.

About 200 marchers gathered in Madison as the antiwar moratorium drew far fewer participants than an October rally.
