Board Finds Computation Error Caused McCoy Mishap
Preliminary findings by the board investigating the Camp McCoy artillery shoot off credit the incident to a computation error by an officer of B Battery 928th Field Artillery Battalion Reserve unit from Sac City Iowa. Lt Col John P Carr said the incident caused no injuries and noted training mistakes are bound to happen. Investigators located shell fragments and two crater sites near Cataract Wisconsin, with the closest crater 700 to 800 yards from a house and fragments found 28 feet from the Jones home tree impact. The shoot off occurred after moving into position as dusk fell.

Woman Dies In Collision On Highway 52 Near Decorah
A Decorah woman, Mrs. Marcella Brooks, 31, died in a head on crash on Highway 52 about 30 miles north of Decorah Saturday evening. Her husband Delmar and children Susan 12 Randy 7 plus Richard Steine were injured. Steine faces possible charges as the other driver, Stevie, was southbound and struck the Brooks car. All victims were treated at a Decorah hospital.

Pellet gun accident injures nine year old boy
A 9 year old South Side boy was accidentally shot in the chest with a pellet gun while playing with other youngsters. He was treated at St Francis Hospital and then at St Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota where doctors located the bullet between his heart and lungs and he remains under observation. Police investigated after an anonymous call and questioned the boy and his brother about the incident.
