Carter proposes $34 billion welfare reform to boost work
President Carter asks Congress to replace the welfare system with a $34 billion plan that moves able bodied recipients into jobs and provides support for those unable to work. The plan targets no work requirements for the aged disabled and single parents with young children and envisions 1.4 million public service jobs.

Replacement planned for Monegan Overhead Bridge in 1979
Wisconsin DOT outlined four plans to replace the deteriorating Monegan Overhead bridge on US Highway 16 near Losey Boulevard. Proposals include a new four lane bridge west or east of the present structure with rerouted eastbound traffic and possible home removals. Construction is slated to begin after final planning in about two years.
