King Constantine Agrees To Debate In Parliament

In Athens the king backed a new parliamentary confidence vote after meeting with Premier George Athanasiadis Novas and Speaker Emmanuel Baklatzis. Baklatzis, who had halted sessions amid protests, said parliament would resume Monday if a quorum is present and the government could present its policy statements.

Planes Dump 20 Tons of Bombs on Viet Cong

U S and Vietnamese planes bombed a North Vietnamese ammunition dump near Xom Rang 75 miles northwest of the border. Four American F104 jets and 10 Skyraiders conducted the raid with heavy damage reported and no enemy fire encountered. Casualties included a grenade attack in Saigon.

Fourth Street Closure and One Way Traffic Plan

City officials announce 4th Street will close to traffic and 5th Avenue will become a one way street between South Avenue and Cass Street starting at 9 a.m. Monday. Resurfacing of 4th begins in September with a $170,970 project joint with Northern States Power Co and La Crosse Telephone Corp, expected to finish in November.

Wisconsin Cigarette Tax Increase Takes Effect

Wisconsin’s cigarette tax rose two cents per pack and vending machines add a nickel. Machine prices now 40 cents per pack, cartons at supermarkets about 2.85 rising to 3.05. The 10 cent per pack tax makes Wisconsin's rate the second highest behind Washington and Texas.

Georgia clash as Negroes and whites clash in Americus

In Americus Georgia Saturday about 30 white men clashed with an equal number of Negroes during a downtown march. Two Negro demonstrators were injured and a white man used a snub-nosed revolver. Police escorted participants and a funeral for Andrew Whatley loomed.

Model of new La Crosse public library approved

Preliminary plans for a new La Crosse public library were approved by the City Plan Commission and Library Board. The brick two story building at 8th and Main Streets will replace the present library with construction bids of about 840000 expected early next year per architect Harry Schroeder.

President Johnson spoke by phone with Defense Secretary McNamara and Secretary of State Rusk and called in Ambassador Goldberg for an on the scene session as a Hawaiian conference of military leaders prepares to discuss implementing the 50,000 man U S force increase. Three Hurt in South La Crescent Three-Car Crash

Three persons were hospitalized after a three car crash one mile south of La Crescent Minnesota. The collision involved two head on vehicles and a third striking them. Injured were Robert Tschumper 21 Dorothy Thicke 19 and Marilyn Wuensch 20 all taken to St Francis Hospital. One driver Lyle K St Mary 22 Spring Grove was uninjured. The report time was 10 33 p m.

Illinois cigarette tax rises to seven cents a pack

Springfield files report that Illinois increases the cigarette tax from four to seven cents per pack starting Sunday. The 1963 General Assembly measure is projected to raise about $34 million for the state in two years.
